Body Fat Test Mobile Truck coming Dec 7th!!
After a great summer of training, doing the 30-day Paleo Primer, and Crush Cancer, we are bringing back the Body Fat Test truck to Evolution Martial Arts on Dec 7th from 3pm-7pm. Many of you did a baseline test back at the end of the July to get an idea of where you were in your body mass composition. Now, you can actually see how much your hard work has paid off over these last four months. You will be able to exactly see how much muscle you have gained, how much fat you have lost! For our new students, you will be able to get a baseline reading as well.
First time test is $49, Re-Test is $35. Please sign up for your 10 minute time slot at the front desk.

You Think It's Easy to Teach Martial Arts?
Attention all junior Hapkido students ever wanted to be an instructor? This is your chance to become your favorite instructor and teach a friend martial arts. Invite one friend to Evolution Martial Arts Academy on November 16th for a special fun filled class at 6pm-7pm.
All students will teach their friends the same 1 technique. We will see who does the best job by watching each friend perform the technique. Lets see who has what it takes to become a great martial arts instructor.

We Will Begin Using Attendance ID Cards Soon.
Our student count is beginning to increase which is great news. We will be implementing attendance ID cards to help us keep track of who has been coming to class. We are still slowly creating cards, if you don't see your card don't panic its because we need to take a picture of you. Below are the steps of how to use these cards.
- When you and/or your child comes to take class please pick up your ID card on the wall between the men and women dressing rooms. Adult cards are on the card holder on top, Jr and Tiny Tiger cards are in holders below.
- Cards are placed in holders by LAST name.
- Coaches and Instructors will collect the cards before every class.
- Cards will be placed back into holders ready for pickup for next visit.
Important Notes.
- Please DO NOT take cards home.
- All students must present a card to take class.
- Monthly, 10 Power Pack, Special Deal, and Trial Members will all have cards.
- If your card is not in the holders please check with someone at the front desk.

New Way to Pay For Your Memberships. Starting November 1st.
We have been getting a few questions about our new billing system Hopefully this article will help everyone. We decided to change how we handle our billing service because we wanted to make it easier for our students and members. Our goal is to cut out all the extra steps and just focus on classes and training. Our Square App Credit Card reader just did not offer enough of what we needed. We were disappointed in the lack of features it didn't have.
Using our new billing service our members should have received an email with their November 1st invoice attached as a PDF. Here are some of the main questions we have received
- There is a link to pay online in the email, is it safe? Yes Intuit's site is very safe. Intuit develops Quickbooks and Quicken software and offers merchant services to many small to large businesses so they take our information and your information very seriously. To read more about their security please visit: http://security.intuit.com/index.php
- Is this service free? Yes this service is 100% free, no extra charges or hidden fees. Just type in your bank account information or credit card information and that's it, done. For more information please visit: https://ipn.intuit.com/s/LearnMore
- Why is this better than just paying at Evolution in person? It is less time consuming than coming in early before class or staying after your workout all sweaty to pay. Most of you don't even bring your wallets or checkbooks anyways.
You can create a one time login and password and allow intuit to save all your information. Your credit card info or bank account info should be saved. When you receive future invoices sign in and just click pay. For more information please visit: https://ipn.intuit.com/s/LearnMore - Can I still pay at Evolution? I don't like the internet. Yes we will be more than happy to take care of your payment in person. We will still accept most major credit cards, checks, or good ole fashion cash.
We are looking into simplifying this process even more by having your credit cards or bank accounts charged automatically. I know many of you are interested in this, we will keep you posted.
If anyone has any questions regarding their invoice or needs additional help please dont hesitate to email billing@evomaa.net.

Vinyasa Yoga Classes Starting Soon at EVO
We are proud to present a Vinyasa Yoga program starting very soon at Evolution Martial Arts Academy. Vinyasa Yoga is a flow yoga, because of the smooth way that the poses run together and become like a dance. The breath becomes an important component because you move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. The constant movements from one pose to another, gives an added cardiovascular benefit, which more traditional forms of yoga do not have. The consistant practice of vinyasa yoga can increase muscle strength, endurance and flexibility, and reduce levels of stress.
This is a great compliment to CrossFit for those days off. We are thinking about offering the class Mondays and Wednesdays from 10-11am. More class times will be available as we soon as we gain more interest in this program. If you are interested in different times or days please send us an email to info@evomaa.net. We will take your suggestion into consideration when we officially finalize the time and start date. Thanks again, we are always looking to improve our community and what can offer to our students.

Facebook Check-Ins Deals, where did you go?
Everyone we have some bad news. It looks like Facebook's recent app update to iPhones and Androids have broken the chance for you to claim discounts and prizes from us for collecting check-in's at Evolution.
We hope they fix this soon and you all can start accumulating check-in's again. We let you know when and if they decide to fix this. We hope this doesn't change the fact that you all still continue to check-in and write really smart-a** status comments. :-)
Some of our Favorites:
"WOD the hell was I thinking??"
"Even when I don't want to"
"That girl was just straight nasty"
"Me and the worlds biggest fan"
"Did Kelly would have rather done Nancy"
"Snatch Time"
"Where's the Check-Out button??"

Evolution and DogTown CrossFit coming together for Crush Cancer Fundraiser Event!
Start your fundraising!! Evolution Martial Arts Academy is going to be joining in on the 2nd Annual Crush Cancer event that is being coordinated by DogTown CrossFit in Culver City. Instead of participating in Fight Gone Bad, we will be supporting this fundraising event, in which all the proceeds go to Stand Up 2 Cancer to help fund cancer research, and maybe even one day, find a cure! We have all encountered someone who has had cancer, and either won or lost their fight. This event is for them, and every other person who might one day be fighting for their life against this horrible disease! Let's help make a difference!
What is Crush Cancer and how did it get started?
Crush Cancer was created by DogTown Crossfit in 2011, as a substitute for the annual "Fight Gone Bad" fundraising event that most CrossFit gyms hold. The reason being that last year, FGB decided not to donate any portion of the proceeds to cancer research. Not that FGB doesn't do a great in fundraising for wounded vets, families of fallen soldiers and first responders, and other noble charities of that nature. But, cancer affects hundreds of thousands of people per year, and that kind of statistic is sobering. One of the owners of Dogtown CrossFit, Adam Noble, is a cancer survivor. He fought the disease, and lived to tell about it. As a result, the fight against cancer is quite personal to him. Last year, in its inaugural event, which Coach Brandon participated in (as then a member of the DogTown family), $60,000 was raised for Stand Up To Cancer, and it was an amazing workout and event. This year, Evolution asked DogTown CrossFit to join in on this worthy cause, and have a fun time doing this event with them.
How do I get involved?
Evolution has created their own fundraiser page on Crowdrise (www.crowdrise.com/evolutionmaa). Go to this page, and on the right hand side you will see a button that reads "Join the Team". Click on that button and set up your own page under our team page. Once your page is ready to go, all you have to do is post the link on your FB, Twitter, or whatever other social media account you have. Tell your friends to donate on your page. There is no minimum (and of course no maximum). Even if it is just $1, that still is $1 more towards finding a cure!! Every week, you want to repost this link, and keep reminding your friends about it. Think about if every FB friend you have donated $1?? That's pretty good right? So, don't be afraid to ask. Remind them that this donation is tax-deductible as Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) is a 501c3 organization.
Ok, so I have raised money, now what?
On October 27th, in Downtown Culver City, we will participate in an awesome, outdoor, public WOD!! You can invite your friends, family, neighbors, whoever you want!! It is an awesome day of camaraderie and sportsmanship. You will be doing the following workout for total amount of reps.
3 Rounds- 1 min. Each Station
- Power Cleans
- Kettlebell Swings
- Burpees
- Shoulder to Overhead
- Double Unders
Here's some additional information on the upcoming Crush Cancer fundraiser:
1) All active CrossFit students have to create their personal page under our Evolution fundraiser page by Friday, September 21st! (this gives you a little over a month to fundraise)
Some evil WOD will be assigned to those who don't make the deadline >:) ...and you will still have to create a
page... hehe...
Ask Coach Brandon if you need help in setting up your page. It is pretty straight forward though...
2) You have to actively fundraise! Even if that means donating some money yourself. This is for the fight against cancer, so every dollar counts! Even if it is only $1!!
3) You are NOT required to participate on the day of the Crush Cancer event, but you ARE required to do the workout. There will be "make up" days for the Crush Cancer WOD (before and after the actual event).

Paleo speakers coming to EVO, 6pm tonight, July 30th!
ATTENTION CROSSFIT EVO!! No regular class at 6:00PM!!
Today we will be having a special guest coming to speak with everyone about Paleo and give you alot more information about the diet and how it works at 6:00PM!!
Coach Sean Coonce is a good friend of mine from Dogtown CrossFit, and their resident nutritional consultant and Paleo expert! He has a vast amount of knowledge about Paleo and general nutrition, which is why I asked him to come talk to you all. He has even offered to individually consult any EVO member who wants to discuss nutrition and set executable goals.
Regular class will be at 5:00PM and possibly another regular class running concurrently with the Intro class at 7:00PM! He has a lot of good information, and I know you all have a lot of questions, so I feel a full hour is required.

New Class Schedule...On Ramp CrossFit Classes Now Active.
We have made changes to our class schedule, we tried to accommodate everyones schedule the best we could.
Our regular CrossFitters from the day we opened are slowly getting the hang of most of the functional movements and techniques which has been great. We noticed that they all have improved their fitness levels. It is time we start dedicating classes for beginners and others who have never done CrossFit. The On-Ramp classes will have the Skill Work broken down even more and a WOD that is scaled or modified for beginners. The coaches will decide if new CrossFitters are ready to merge into the regular classes.
We strongly urge our regular CrossFitters to not take the On-Ramp class because more focus will be dedicated to the beginners. If you are a regular CrossFitter and you feel like you need a refresher on a technique or if you just missed your regular class and need some type of workout for that day then come to this class. You will do the intro WOD which will not be as challenging for you.
On Ramp Classes:
Mondays & Wednesday 7:00pm
Saturday 9:00am
Hapkido and Kickboxing class times have also changed as well. Please visit our website regularly for any news and class scheduling changes. Thank You.

Unfortunately it will only be in the mens and children sizes, so ladies you will need to pick up a size mens small or medium. We feel that the Sanbon shirts are soft enough and form fitting enough that it should be fine. We are only printing 100 shirts so if you are interested let us know sooner than later. You can send us a message on Facebook or email info@evomaa.net. Shirts will be sold on a first come first serve bases. Any left over shirts can be purchased on the day of the event.

Our First Deal with Affective Living.
We have partnered up with Affective Living because we believe in education and charities. Affective Living is similar to any other group buying deal sites (ie. Groupon, Living Social), the only difference is they give a percentage back on every deal to the local schools and or charities of the buyers choosing. Their area of focus for now is northern portion of the San Fernando Valley, Northridge, Chatsworth, Granada Hills, and Porter Ranch. They are slowly expanding.
Our first deal is a Martial Arts deal of unlimited training for a month plus uniform for $49. If you know any one who lives in the area and is interested please have them visit:
http://affectiveliving.com
They offer a lot of great deals with the local businesses in our area. Affective Living loves giving back, and what a better way to help our community than invest in our community’s future…our children, local non-profits and charitable organizations!

Accumulate Facebook "Check-Ins" at Evolution Martial Arts Academy to Earn Discounts and Free Stuff.
We would like to somehow thank all of our loyal students for coming into Evolution Martial Arts Academy training and working hard on a regular basis. So we have come up with a way to reward them. We will break this down as simple as possible. Starting Wednesday June 13th do the following:
Check-In
1. Check yourself into Evolution Martial Arts Academy on FACEBOOK when you arrive. You will see "Accumulate check-ins for rewards. Up to 50% off" (example below, may look different based on the version of FB on phone)

2. Take Class
3. Go Home (shower)
4. Do it again next time. Check-in as much as possible.
5. Once you have checked in 20 times it should say "Present this screen to Jason or Brandon"
6. We then input into the good ole computer that you checked in 20 times and then you start all over.
Cash-Out
So you have a bunch of check-ins what can do with them? We are in the process of developing a chart that you can pick and choose how to spend your check ins. For example 25 check-ins can earn you 50% off a T-Shirt. Or you can save up 50 check-ins for a Free T-Shirt.
So remember June 13th start racking up Check-Ins...who knows one item maybe a Free Month. Something so simple can earn you some cool stuff in our opinion.
*Some exclusions do apply ask Jason or email info@evomaa.net if you have any questions.
